Deferral is an act that lets some object be. It is a non-metaphysical and non-supernatural action that is unique to humanity. The first sign was a recognition of this at least temporary staving off of mimetic violence. All subsequent sign use is a continuation of this deferral of violence.

Origin

Deferral emerges on the Originary Scene when human beings for the first time have a non-appetitive relationship to an object. This happens when they collectively issue a sign to represent their hesitation from instinctually appropriating the object of shared desire.

Deferral can come in different forms, like deferring violence/desire/resentment/etc. Is this true?

Characteristics

Deferral is negative in that it is a kind of "stepping back" and observing while also being positive and creative because deferral gives us the space to see and hear something new.
