Deferral

Deferral is an act that lets some object be. The first sign was the deferral of mimetic violence on the Originary Scene and all subsequent language use continues that deferral of violence via representation.

Origin

Deferral emerges on the Originary Scene when human beings for the first time have a non-appetitive relationship to an object. This happens when they collectively issue a sign to represent their hesitation from instinctually appropriating the object of shared desire.

It is negative in that deferral is a kind of "stepping back" and observing while also immediately being positive and creative because deferral gives us the space to see and hear something new.

Deferral can come in different forms, like deferring violence/desire/resentment/etc.

Characteristics

Deferral "negative" in that it is "holding back" and it is also immediately positive and creative because it enables a new way of seeing the object "as a whole".
